Clients will often hear me say, “this is why therapists go to therapy.” I say this to normalize difficulties, to highlight that everyone gets stuck, and because it’s true; therapists go to therapy too.
I’ve found therapy to be tremendously helpful and I’ve been fortunate to find very skilled and dedicated therapists. Unfortunately, like others I have also been harmed by outdated approaches and treatment ideas. This can be particularly true within addiction treatment, and it’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about harm reduction.
I come to my work knowing first-hand that everyone is deserving of respect and care, regardless of the situation they are in or the struggles they are having.
I consider it a privilege to be a psychologist.
Personally, I have a deep desire to know and understand myself; a desire to grow, heal, and bring greater awareness to my life. I consider this a life-long process. Along this path, I’m grateful for my friends and family, time in nature, the ability to travel, and, of course, my hairless dog, Lola.
